For many of us from the moment we wake up we are immediately using our phones in one way or another. I use mine to wake me and I almost always go right to Instagram to see what is going on. Smartphones and social media have a lot of amazing uses that we use every day to make our lives a little easier or more entertaining. The IPhone has a built in news app, so you can easily follow what is happening in the world. There are so many more amazing apps built right in, such as the calendar, maps which can be used for directions, the clock allows us to set timers and alarms. There also apps like notes, this could be used for making a shopping list, or the health app, to track your steps and so many more that we use all the time. Ten years ago the IPhone was just becoming popular and social media sites like Facebook and Twitter were only a few years old. https://thinkmarketingmagazine.com/facebook-celebrates-14-years-of-milestones-a-timeline/ /. It is easy to see just how much of an impact both smart phones and popular social media sites have had since then. Most of us use them as our primary cameras, alarm clocks, GPS, online shopping, banking and so much more.

For all the great things that our smartphones have done for us and all the useful things that come with social media sites there will always be downsides. I believe that most people would agree they feel lost without their phones. This is a statement we should not feel good about considering the IPhone was only released in 2007. The battery life on most smartphones don’t seem to last nearly as long as anyone would like. When we are constantly on them checking Instagram and snapchatting our friends or watching a video on YouTube they die fast. We use our phones so much throughout the day that we kill the battery far too quickly. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/artificial-maturity/201806/seven-symptoms-too-much-social-media-use. That is also another problem in itself is that most of us are constantly on our phones just watching videos or killing time on Instagram rather than being productive. Social Media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram allow for us to post what we want and when we want whether it’s personal or professional. Sometimes that Freedom is taken advantage of when people decide to post mean and hurtful things. Things that should not be posted that may be intended to be private or sensitive content. There have been instances on Facebook live streams where there have been murders and suicides that should not have otherwise been seen. https://nypost.com/2019/03/22/florida-woman-livestreams-suicide-on-facebook./ Overall smartphones and social media have changed our lives a lot. We are able to view the world a little bit differently than ever before. I love the many uses it provides me on a daily basis. That said I also love to take a step back from it for a day, and enjoy some time away from it to do a little fishing or enjoy the outdoors.
